The Owen McVeigh Foundation recently sent an amazing young lady, Lucy, on a fantastic Life Memory trip to see Little Mix live at the Liverpool Echo Arena. Here is what Lucy and her parents had to say about the experience and also some more information on Lucys blog and the great work she and her family are doing:
From Lucy :-
When I got the surprise tickets for the Little Mix concert, I didn’t know what to do, I was quite shocked, I had been in hospital for 18 days and was feeling pretty rubbish, but this just lifted me up. I was so excited to get my make up done as I haven’t got any experience with make up as i was so poorly since I was diagnosed and all my hair, eyebrows and eyelashes fell out there wasn’t much point in trying make up !! Nicola made me look beautiful and when we got to the arena we were treated like VIPs it was so fancy, because I was in a box I felt safe that I would be able to enjoy myself without catching any germs or bugs as I don’t have any immune system as the moment. It was so lovely to do something which was fun with my mum, she has spent all the time looking after me and we had such a great time…..I was blown away by the concert and loved every minute of it. Being poorly really makes you appreciate life and memories are what life’s about, I will always remember the fantastic night I had and an experience I will probably never have again, thank you so much X love Lucy X
From Lucys parents:-
When Lucy was surprised with this fantastic gift from The Owen McVeigh foundation she was just recovering from a 2 and half week stay in the oncology at Alder Hey, this surprise gave her such a massive boost as she has missed out on so much because of her illness. She missed 10 months of school after her diagnosis and also missed out more importantly on her friendship group, her friends were all going out to the cinema and shipping into town all of which Lucy could not do. They experimented with make up and hair styles and of course she had lost all her hair so definitely couldn’t do anything like that !! When she went for her makeover before the concert, Nicola made such a fuss and it was beautiful to see my very brave strong girl just being a giddy 13 year old. We both had an amazing night doing what most people take for granted, for the past 16 months we have spent lots of time together but it would usually be in hospital or waiting for tests and chemotherapy. This gift from the foundation meant we could do something fun, which was age appropriate for a 13 year old to be having fun and singing along to a concert she loved………the difference that these treats make to a family are priceless and give so many good memories which will be remembered for years to come. It takes the sting out of the harsh cruel treatment that these kids go through and hopefully in years to come it will be these treats that kids remember and not the bad bits, thank you for caring and making a difference. Xx Lynne

Her dad also run the Liverpool 10k and she has raised £1380 which is also being split between the foundation and CHICS and she is hosting an afternoon tea in July or August herself with all money to the foundation and CHICS.
